BIZZLEJIG FILMS BEGINS PRODUCTION ON FIRST FEATURE, ROSE OF DEATH INDEPENDENT HORROR FILM BEGINS FILMING IN LAS VEGAS GIVING LOCAL ACTORS A CHANCE TO SHOW THEIR TALENT TO THE WORLD
LAS VEGAS, NV (May 11, 2004) -- Starting December 6, 2003, filming commenced on Bizzlejig Films' low-budget horror film entitled Rose. The film's script was written by L. Alan Brooks from story ideas by Brooks, M. Mitchell, and Fabian Quevedo. Brooks is also directing and co-producing the project with Mitchell and Teri Dukas, and the cast is made up entirely of talent from the Las Vegas area.
The story follows a group of high school friends who killed two of their classmates on prom night and covered it up. Ten years later, they start getting stalked and killed off one by one. But who is exacting this revenge?
Members of the cast have cut their teeth as extras or bit players in bigger projects, such as Head of State, 3000 Miles to Graceland, Miss Congeniality 2, and the television shows "Las Vegas" and "C.S.I." But here they get a chance to show off their acting chops by taking on major roles. And they deliver the goods. Keep your eyes open for these up and coming young stars. First up is Sandra Winogrocki. She plays the role of Meg, a young woman who is haunted by the events that transpired on prom night. She is an actress to watch, turning in a powerful performance. She can be seen as one of the coven girls in the latest Ted V. Mikels film, Cauldron: Baptism of Blood. Luke Jones plays the role of Jake, Meg's ex-boyfriend, who had the biggest hand in the killings on prom night. Luke has the uncanny ability to laugh one second and erupt into rage the next, which comes in quite handy in this role. He is also a musician, playing drums for various local bands. Sarah McGuire plays the titular character Rose, who is one of the young people killed on prom night. She has a very innocent look about her, but don't let those looks fool you. Despite having been a member of a local improv comedy group, she is not playing this part for laughs. She's ready to scare the world. Ash Dauenhauer takes on the role of Kevin, Rose's boyfriend, who also doesn't make it past prom night. Your heart will go out to this guy as you see him fall in love for the first time onscreen. Ash is a student in the Film Program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). He is also an improv and musical comedy performer. Danny Countess hits the ground running as the hard-edged Detective Admonte. He brings intelligence and compassion to the role, but you don't want to get on his bad side. Danny plays guitar with his friend Sam at the Westward Ho Casino here in Las Vegas. He is also a professional ventriloquist. Matt Thomsen plays Admonte's partner, Detective Haines. He's the comic relief half of the partnership who wishes he could be like Don Johnson in "Miami Vice." This is Matt's first feature film, but after watching him, you'd swear he'd been doing this a lot longer. He makes the part his own by improvising a lot of his lines which helps add some much needed humor to such a dark story. Buddy Barnett is Rose's lonely and devastated father who has experienced the loss of a wife and his oldest child, but he still has enough love to give to his remaining daughter. Buddy and his wife, Kathe, are filmmakers as well. They have worked with the likes of Karen Black (on their TV show "Decoupage 2000!") and Daniel Roebuck (on their films The Vampire Hunters Club and The Low Budget Time Machine). Other members of the cast include Mariana Crasto, Jess Thompson, Tamera Miyasato, Kyle Richards, Gillian Page, and Lou Fabré, all of whom bring their considerable talent to this dark and disturbing film. Director and writer L. Alan Brooks has honed his skills over the years by making short films and videos that run the gamut from children's films to dark drama. His short film "Hole" can still be viewed online at www.ifilm.com and has played at the Sidewalk Moving Pictures Festival in Birmingham, AL, and the Scheissenhooven Film Festival in Las Vegas, NV. Rose of Death marks Brooks's first foray into the horror genre.
